Charity Walk Across Scotland
8th September 2010
Several blisters and pulled muscles later, staff and clients of EQ, raised over £5,000 for charity after a 9-days walk across Scotland.
"Over 30 of my colleagues from the Dundee, Forfar and Perth offices completed a taxing walk from Glencoe Village to Arbroath, a distance of around 145 miles. The walk, which started on Saturday, 21 August, raised funds for Cancer Research UK and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Scotland. A number of the firm's clients and other business colleagues also took part in the gruelling challenge," said Mark Barron, the walk co-ordinator.
Keith Hopkins, Partner, said, "From the Atlantic at Glencoe village to the North Sea at Arbroath, we covered over 145 miles. Some couldn't map read and walked a little extra, as did those who took detours to visit clients on more than one occasion for high tea and fresh pancakes! We didn't count the blisters, pulled muscles and stretched tendons but everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed the fun, fellowship and camaraderie over the nine days. Clients who joined in are already asking when we can do it all again but 'not yet' is the reply for now."
Each day, a group walked between 13 and 19 miles and then another group of walkers continued the route the next day. Some staff walked more than one day.
EQ would like to thank the proprietors of the Old Brewhouse at Arbroath for providing the walkers with a buffet at the harbour on the final day of the walk; the numerous well-wishers they met enroute; the providers of hospitality; and family, friends and business colleagues who have donated to these two charities.
