Alan Tucker retired from EQ at close of business on Friday 31 March 2017, and that evening a dinner (attended by just over 100 clients, colleagues and professional friends) was held to celebrate his career with the firm. Clova Hotel was the venue, where an entertaining evening was had by all. Iain Gordon, Chairman of EQ spoke on behalf of all attending to thank Alan for his commitment and contribution to both clients and the Firm over the last 38 years. Alan has always provided a range of support, and is valued by clients and colleagues for his taxation expertise, and his “common sense” approach to whatever challenge is presented. His career has seen him work to a significant extent with clients across the Agricultural business community, and his knowledge and expertise have been recognised and appreciated throughout his career.

He has also however been aware of the importance of growing EQ, and coaching and supporting the next generation of advisors. In that regard he leaves the firm, and the Forfar office in particular, in very safe hands, and we are grateful to him for his personal contribution to developing the skills and experience of a series of very capable colleagues. Iain Gordon commented, “Alan will be missed professionally and personally, but at the same time we have formed a great team within our Forfar office with real strength in depth. Our expertise within the Agricultural sector has never been stronger, and our team of 30 people will continue to provide the proactive and innovative support for clients that they have come to expect. Myself, Graeme Davidson, Angela Haig and Mark Smeaton (the Forfar based Partners) are proud to continue the traditions of EQ in Forfar, and we will ensure that every client will continue to enjoy the benefits of business relationships, and personal friendships”.

Alan originally joined Reeves & Neylan in Canterbury, but moved to Forfar in 1980. As one of the “founding Fathers” of the firm, he has seen huge changes, resulting in the firm that now operates as EQ Accountants, employing around 120 people across 4 offices in Tayside and Fife. As well as client responsibilities, Alan was also instrumental in encouraging the ongoing investment in new systems, and supporting our IT department in adopting and developing modern systems, enhancing client service and internal efficiencies.

Away from the office Alan has been a leading figure at Kirriemuir Golf Club in recent years, having been Captain for several years. His retirement will provide him the opportunity to continue his involvement with the Club, on and off the course.
