TIGA calls for Development Fund

TIGA, the trade association that represents the video games industry, is asking the government to create a new UK fund to provide development monies.

This follows on from a recent round of European funding where a number of UK studios received grant aid.

TIGA chief executive, Dr Richard Wilson, said there is a need for this type of UK funding if the desire for the UK to be the top development country is to succeed.

TIGA have estimated that funding could create up to 600 new direct jobs and 1,000 in the supply chain as well as improve the GDP by up to £200m year on year.

The call also comes as concerns that the fall out from Brexit may result in European funding no longer being available to the UK games industry.
