I was also a little apprehensive about starting a new role during the pandemic, however the team at EQ were very welcoming and flexible with their onboarding process.

Why did you make the move to EQ? What were you looking for?

I was at a stage in my career where I wanted a new challenge and one that would combine the experience from my previous roles. The broad service offering that EQ provides enabled me to pursue this. Additionally, I was looking to relocate from Aberdeen and after researching firms in the local area, I soon learnt that EQ had a great reputation.

What were your apprehensions in moving to EQ?  How have these been overcome?

My main apprehension was around returning to everyday compliance work having spent 2 years being focused on Corporate Finance engagements. EQ provided me with great support that helped me get back up to speed and familiarise myself with all the systems / processes. I was also a little apprehensive about starting a new role during the pandemic, however the team were very welcoming and flexible with their onboarding process.

How different do you think EQ is (to the practice you were in previously)?

EQ is different as it trains staff across all aspects of accounting. Having previously worked with various different departments within a firm, it has been refreshing to be able to take a job right from the bookkeeping through to submission of the tax return and be able to tackle advisory work as well. EQ are very forward thinking and encourage this across all levels.

How do our working practices differ to the firm you were part of before?

The unique controller structure in place at EQ is the main difference, and having now seen it operate in practice, I feel it works well. Each client has 3 main points of contact within the firm, all at different levels, which benefits the client and allows junior members of staff to develop.

What are you involved in at EQ that you weren’t involved in before?

Having worked in compliance and advisory based roles previously, the work is fairly similar however it differs at EQ because you are not focusing solely on one aspect. The work undertaken across all my clients is varied and means that day to day I get a good balance of both compliance and advisory work.

What opportunities have been available to you since you joined EQ?

Various! Every day is different, and I have been able to get involved in a broad range of assignments from both my own client list and new clients to the firm. I have also joined the EQ Technology team and look forward to future networking and wider business opportunities in this sector.

Can you tell us a little about the relationships you have established with your clients since you joined?

Since joining I have remotely established relationships with both existing clients and new clients to the firm. I look forward to being able to visit client premises once restrictions are lifted in order to help bring everything to life.

What three things you would say to someone interested in making a move to EQ?

  • The working environment is great, and everyone is friendly. You can get in touch with one of the existing team to have a chat about life at EQ
  • You will be given so many different opportunities and great training along the way with brilliant career development prospects
  • You are given client exposure from day 1 which can help build up your business network quickly
