EQ at home – Mark Wilken

At EQ, our people are at the heart of what we do.

Although working from home means we are physically spread across our regions, our team are working hard to maintain regular communication with their clients whilst continuing to support colleagues by connecting with them daily.

We caught up with Mark Wilken, Partner in our Cupar office, to find out more about his experience working from home.

How are you finding working remotely?

As good as can be expected. The IT systems have worked brilliantly, and I have had no difficulty in logging on each day, giving me full access to all programmes and data. Huge thanks to our IT team for making it all work so smoothly.

Working from home however makes you realise how much you rely on your colleagues. We very much take a team approach at EQ, so miss not having a daily interaction with others in the office, either to seek advice, progress client work or just bounce ideas around.

I am lucky enough to have a garden, so on the upside have been able to enjoy the full benefit of all the spring flowers that are out.

What are you doing to keep in touch with the rest of the EQ team?

We hold regular team meetings on Microsoft Teams, have a Cupar Whatsapp group and I am also in regular contact via phone, so managing to stay in touch surprisingly well.

How are you looking after your emotional well being?

I am a huge believer in getting outside for exercise so will go for either a run, cycle or walk every day. Hopefully this will keep me in shape and mentally fit. Luckily the weather this April has been great.

What advice would you give to others working from home?

Difficult to say as we are all different. I very much stick to a routine in line with office hours so that there is clear distinction between “home” and “work”. Start the day with a plan of action and if you get through half the points by the end of the day it’s probably been a success.

Tell us, what are your new co-workers like?

I am stuck at home with my two teenage children who should both be sitting exams just now. My daughter is a keen baker so have been enjoying a variety of cakes. Hopefully all the exercise will burn off the extra calories!

Our doors may be temporarily closed, but EQ are still here to support you. You can contact us on any of our usual telephone numbers and email addresses, which you can find on the Our People page on this website.
