EQ at home – Scott Greig

At EQ, our people are at the heart of what we do.

Although working from home means we are physically spread across our regions, our team are working hard to maintain regular communication with their clients whilst continuing to support colleagues by connecting with them daily.

We caught up with Scott Greig, one of the newly appointed Partners from our Cupar office, to find out more about his experience working from home.

How are you finding working remotely?

At first it was strange not having to travel to work and breaking the old regime. However, given how well our IT department adapted to give us full access to our systems, I have quite quickly developed a new routine which comes with its own perks!

What are you doing to keep in touch with the rest of the EQ team?

We have regular workload meetings on Microsoft Teams to ensure we are on top of the work and supporting our clients every way we can given the pressure they are facing. The team meetings also have a social side where we can chat about our day/weekend and see how everyone else is filling their time outside of work.

I hosted the first (hopefully of many) ‘Cupar Office Pub Quiz’ which was fun and helped to bring the whole team together. We shared a few drinks, laughs and everyone’s general knowledge was well and truly tested (maybe the less said about that the better…).

How are you looking after your emotional well being?

I had a very set routine during the traditional working week which I found difficult to let go, but I have just tweaked it to make it work under the current circumstances. I go for a run each morning, varying the route and distance to keep pushing myself. I am lucky to be surrounded by countryside which affords lots of nice running routes. I also enjoy working out in the garden as I feel exercise keeps both the mind and body healthy and allows a complete distraction from work and social media.

My family regularly have video calls as well which I enjoy as all my nieces and nephews are so imaginative when it comes to how to spend your time. Every day is a school day as they say!

What advice would you give to others working from home?

Set yourself up in a good work space, preferably away from the bedroom or livingroom to avoid distractions. Start the day as normal having breakfast, coffee and dress for work, albeit the suits can stay in the wardrobe. Stick to a schedule for breaks and lunch and try to include some time outside the house throughout the day to recharge the batteries.

Tell us, what are your new co-workers like?

We have a house cat, Romulus, who is enjoying having people in the house a lot more although he does likes to walk over the laptop whenever he choses and can often be seen when I am on video calls.

Our doors may be temporarily closed, but EQ are still here to support you. You can contact us on any of our usual telephone numbers and email addresses, which you can find on the Our People page on this website.
