Further update on NHS financial support Category: COVID-19Healthcare - Posted On: Apr 9 2020 As discussed in our previous article, Chief Dental Officer, Tom Ferris sent a memorandum on Thursday 9 April that provides independent contractors (dentists and corporate dental bodies) with specific guidance for those practices in receipt of NHS financial support measures who may wish to apply for other financial support. A number of contractors have inquired about whether it’s possible to receive the NHS funding support measures in Scotland and apply for other financial support, referenced in the memorandum to NHS: PCA(D)(2020)7 on paragraph 15. NHS funding support would not be a bar for practices with mixed provisions to claim financial support for private dentistry, providing the claim is proportionate to the amount of private dentistry being provided. Private dental care, similar to any other private business, may qualify for the Coronovirus Job Rentention Scheme and Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme. Dental practices need to explore each of these funding streams, taking cognisance of their precise circumstances. The Scottish Government is working with the UK Government on the mechanism to ensure that the funding is not duplicated. There will be further advice provided in due course, in the meantime any inquiries should be taken up with the NHS Board.
