Robert Young, newly appointed Partner in our Forfar office

We are excited that our three new Partners will take up their roles from 1 April, bringing the total number of Partners to 17.

All three undertook their training within the Firm including Robert Young, whose specialist skills and knowledge in agriculture and personal taxation will supplement the four existing Partners within our Forfar office.

Robert, who manages his own farm in Perthshire, plays a prominent role in our EQ Agriculture team, assisting in the delivery and promotion of the firm’s agricultural services. His client base is almost entirely made up of rural clients, including many farming families who appreciate his in-depth understanding and knowledge of the agriculture community, developed through his own farming experiences – and through his 16 years of experience, working alongside some of the Country’s leading advisors to the sector

Along with his role in the EQ Agriculture team, he also leads the specialist Private Client tax team, dealing with complex tax matters affecting individuals including Inheritance Tax planning, Capital Gains Tax, Trust and Estate Taxation and Income Tax planning. Many of these tax issues affect his agricultural client base, particularly when it comes to succession planning.

Robert comments,

“I’ve established strong relationships with my clients over the years, many of whom I’ve helped pass their farm down to the next generation. They appreciate that I can talk to them as another farmer would, but in addition have the knowledge to advise them on complex matters. I am passionate about the local agriculture community and want to help my clients succeed.”

Since joining the firm over 16 years ago, Robert has continuously developed his knowledge, qualifying with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 2013. He was recently named on the Accountancy Age 35 Under 35 ranking, a list that showcases the industry’s rising talent who have made great professional contributions to the accountancy sector and their respective firms.

Robert added,

“It’s an honour to be promoted to Partner, and I’d like to thank my colleagues, clients and contacts who have always supported me throughout my career. EQ have been a fantastic firm to train and develop with, and I look forward to continuing to help the firm go from strength to strength.”

Graeme Davidson, Partner and Head of EQ Agriculture, added,

“Robert is extremely well respected by his clients, colleagues and professional contacts. As a prime example of homegrown talent, Robert has and will continue to be crucial in the success and growth of EQ. His promotion is richly deserved and I, along with my fellow Partners, look forward to continuing to work together and developing our offering at EQ to ensure our clients receive the best possible support and advice, at all times.”

We have offices in ForfarDundeeCupar and Glenrothes and through the hard work and dedication of our team, we have achieved strong levels of growth in the last 5 years, increasing turnover to £8m in 2020. We look forward to strengthening our position with Robert and our other new Partners in the year ahead.

Congratulations Robert, from all of us at EQ!
