Category: EQ AccountingPayroll - Posted On: Mar 29 2021

With April fast approaching, it’s time to familiarise yourself with Year End filing procedures and deadlines.

There are a number of things you need to do for a successful payroll year end but key to this is submitting your final payroll of the 2020/21 tax year to HMRC by 19 April 2021.

Here are some of the key dates around payroll year end that you need to be aware of:

  • 5 April                  – The 2020/21 tax year ends on this date
  • 6 April                  – The new tax year (2021/22) begins
  • 19 April                – This is the deadline for the final submission of the 2020/21 tax year
  • By 31 May           – Your employees need to receive their P60s

To help you to process your payroll year end, HMRC have a step-by-step guide which can be found here.

From 6 April, you will need to make sure you update your employee payroll records and payroll software, as well as ensure the correct tax code is used. You can find the rates and thresholds for employers for 2021 – 2022 here.
