Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme payments underway Category: Agriculture - Posted On: Apr 10 2020 On 4 April, the Scottish Government announced that it will start making payments to those who submitted a Scottish Suckler Beef Support Scheme (SSBSS) claim before 31 December 2019. The SSBSS is designed to maintain beef suckler herds at a level that sustains the commercial beef industry in Scotland and is paid to calves that are at least 75 percent beef bred, born on a Scottish holding and kept there for 30 days. The scheme rate per animal is determined by the total number of eligible animals claimed. Payment rates area as follows:- Area£/head -2019£/head -2018 Highland101.5698.92 Island148.20144.27 A total of 7,000 beef producers are expected to share a total pay-out of £40m, meaning that on average each will receive £5,700.
