At EQ, our people are at the heart of what we do. As a modern, energetic accounting, tax and business advisory practice, we understand how important it is to have the right people in the right roles to be able to provide the high-quality services our clients expect.

We are currently on the lookout for talented individuals to join our team so we asked Leanne Jubb from our Glenrothes office to share her experiences of working at EQ in a qualified role.

Leanne Jubb, Assistant Manager from our Glenrothes office

How long have you been with EQ and what made you choose to work here?

I’ve been with EQ for over 4 years now and I chose to move to EQ to become involved with clients from a much broader range of industries. The location also really appealed to me as previously I was commuting to Edinburgh.

What opportunities have been available to you to develop and how does this differ to where you worked before?

I’ve been given the opportunity to get involved with a number of business valuations and have been involved in a lot more client meetings than at previous employers. Attending meetings has helped me build relationships with clients and I’ve gained insights into the matters that really concern clients on a daily basis.

What support has been in place for you to make the transition to EQ and the way that we work?

I had previously worked with one of the partners and had experience of the tax software so the first few weeks were easier than they might have been otherwise. Everyone is very supportive and there’s always someone happy to help you find your way around the new software or processes that are in place.

What would you say is a typical day for you?

A normal day will usually involve reviewing accounts, tax returns and VAT returns whilst also providing assistance and answering questions from junior members of staff to help them with their understanding of what we do. You can of course go into a day with a plan but client emails and phone calls will send you off down a different course which is what makes the job more interesting.

How have you had to adapt the way you work whilst working remotely?

To begin with I had to work much more flexibly to juggle part time working and full time childcare but in the last few months I have been able to get back into a better routine albeit from the kitchen table until I get a chance to decorate the spare bedroom!

Can you give us an example of some of the things you’ve been working on recently?

I’ve been working on a large set of projections recently alongside the annual accounts for the same client, it’s been interesting to learn about their ambitious plans for the business.

What would you say is your favourite thing about working at EQ?

It would have to be the people, that’s what I miss most about being in the office environment at the moment. As you don’t solely work for one partner there’s the opportunity to mix with everyone in the office and those from other offices when attending meetings or training sessions.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying to EQ?

Don’t hesitate to apply, there’s plenty of opportunities for personal growth and to be exposed to a wide range of clients and sectors.
