We are able to offer school or college leavers an alternative route into the accountancy profession, without having to go to university to study for a degree. As a firm, we pride ourselves on offering a fantastic training experience and understand that some prefer practical learning.
We provide the opportunity to start as a Trainee Accounts Assistant and help you develop a range of skills, to allow you to grow both professionally and personally.
EQ are a dynamic firm, and we believe in knowledge sharing and encourage our staff to help and actively support one another whenever possible.
Nothing can beat practical experience – we want you to grow and progress in your career to allow you to reach your ambitions. We also want you to have fun doing it!
You will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of service areas, such as bookkeeping, accounts preparation, budgets and cashflows, etc.
You might also assist in carrying out audits (independent examinations of a client’s accounts), providing tax advice to clients, as well as dealing with HMRC on their behalf and offering support on how businesses can improve their performance and increase profits.
As you progress, more of your time will be spent delivering value added services rather than pure compliance work as well as building relationships with clients and intermediaries (i.e. bankers, lawyers etc).
After around a year of work-based learning, we would look at supporting you through formal studies with ACCA.
The length of training varies depending on your initial entry qualifications but you will be supported throughout your journey.
Practical training continues to take place “on the job” and we also supplement your formal studies with training courses delivered internally by our more senior staff who continue to mentor you and provide advice, every step of the way.
If you are interested in joining us as a trainee, but you want to know more from people who have been through the experience then take a look below.
We’ve asked some of our previous trainees various questions to give you an idea of what life is like training with EQ – you’ll be glad to know that many have chosen to stay with us, and some are now Principal Managers or even Partners!
If you any questions, or would like to apply, then send your CV and covering letter to our HR & Training team via [email protected]
I chose to join EQ instead of going to college or university as I wanted to earn while learning. The fact that it took roughly the same time to qualify as an accountant compared to college/uni was always a plus for me.
Don’t be put off by having no experience in payroll or bookkeeping. The majority of my colleagues started working here with no experience and have progressed well with learning on the job.
From about second year at school accountancy has always been what I wanted to do.
I had no idea what I wanted to do when I left school; I sort of stumbled into accountancy.
The advice I would give to people who are considering applying for a job at EQ is to do your research into the firm and prepare for your interview. Be determined and committed to working hard but also have an open mindset.
On my first day I was welcomed into the office with open arms and everyone makes a real effort to have fun whilst working hard so it makes it a really nice environment to work in.
