Where and what did you study at University? I studied Accountancy & Finance at Robert Gordon University (RGU).
Why did you choose to apply to EQ Accountants to undertake a student placement? I wanted to spend my placement in practice rather than industry, and as EQ doesn’t departmentalise, it was the obvious choice to allow me to gain experience completing a variety of different tasks. Being from the area, I knew of EQ’s good reputation and this also contributed towards applying.
Describe what a normal day was like during your student placement? It’s almost impossible to describe a ‘typical’ day. As we are completing a variety of work across a variety of sectors, no two days are the same. I was involved in bookkeeping, accounts prep, preparation of VAT & tax returns as well as other compliance for a range of clients. The variety of work stood me in good stead for completing my fourth-year exams.
What did you enjoy most about your time at EQ during your student placement? The people. Everyone was so friendly & approachable from juniors up to partners. There are always new social events happening too. It’s a great place to work.
What did you find the most surprising during your time with EQ? You are involved in client work from the very beginning. People are always looking for ways to help develop you and you will be supported in this.
What 3 qualities do you think a student looking for a placement position needs to have if they are to be successful? Enthusiasm, determination and good people skills are all key.
