I enjoy getting involved in all aspects of client work. From early on I was given my own client list, allowing me to work on all their affairs and get to know them from regular contact.

Why did you choose a career in Accountancy?
I studied accountancy at university as I had always enjoyed maths and business studies at school.

Why did you choose to apply to EQ Accountants to complete your professional qualification?
After a summer placement at their Cupar office, I knew that I wanted to come back to EQ to complete my training contract. I loved the idea of working on lots of different areas and could see how great their training programme was with all the support available.

What is a day in the life of a CA Trainee like?
Everyday is different. As we aren’t split out into departments you can be working on a small individual tax return on Monday, large corporate accounts on Wednesday, and doing a farm VAT return on Friday.

What did you enjoy most about being a CA Trainee at EQ?
Getting involved in all aspects of client work. From early on I was given my own client list, allowing me to work on all their affairs and get to know them from regular contact.

What did you find the most surprising during your training with EQ?
That everyone is willing to help, no matter how silly the question. Everyone has been in the same position to you and can give lots of advice.

What 3 qualities do you think a CA Trainee needs to have if they are to be successful?
Determined, trustworthy and personable.

Do you have any advice for those interested in applying for our graduate training vacancies this year?
Be yourself!
