I found that I didn’t want to be in full time education and getting a full-time job while developing my skills and earning money was the best option for me.

Why did you choose a career in Accounts?
I was never sure what career I wanted to do when I left school. I enjoyed working with numbers, so it made sense to try accountancy as a career.

Why did you choose the opportunity to join EQ over college or university?
I had initially secured a place at university to study accountancy but the opportunity to work at EQ came up and sounded the perfect option for me.

I found that I didn’t want to be in full time education and getting a full-time job while developing my skills and earning money was the best option for me.

Why did you choose EQ Accountants?
EQ have a great training programme for school leavers so when this opportunity came up, I couldn’t say no.

What’s a day in the life of a Trainee Accounts Assistant like?
I spend most my time preparing accounts, but I also do other jobs just such as preparing tax returns, VAT returns and small admin tasks such as sending out letters to clients.

What qualifications are you studying towards?
I am currently in the process of sitting my CAT exams which will then lead onto ACCA.

What do you enjoy most about being a Trainee Accounts Assistant at EQ?
The working environment is great. If I am struggling on a job I am working on, someone is always there to help.

The social events are also great as it builds up a great working relationship with the other team members and makes working environment much more enjoyable.

What 3 qualities do you think a Trainee Accounts Assistant needs to have if they are to be successful?

  1. Communication skills. This is very important as you need to work as part of a team to complete jobs.
  2. You need to work hard. It is tough to work full time and study for your exams. It is worth it in the end though!
  3. You need to be able to adapt. Not everyday is the same in accountancy and you will also need to adapt to client demands.

Do you have any advice for those interested in applying to join the team?
Go for it and be yourself! I don’t regret not going to university at all. I have more of a social life now than I did when I worked part time and I am earning money while I am learning!
