What surprised me most was the amount of responsibility I was given. It is nice that they had belief in myself and other trainees to do the work.

Why did you choose a career in Accountancy?
I studied accountancy at the University of Dundee and had an internship with EQ in the Dundee office to determine whether this was something I would like to pursue further – turns out it was!

Why did you choose to apply to EQ Accountants to complete your professional qualification?
After I completed my internship, I knew EQ was where I wanted to work. I was able to get involved in accounts preparation from the first day – I just thought my tea and coffee making abilities would improve, but they never! Everyone in the office was so nice and were people I wanted to work with. I also liked that the firm was local.

What is a day in the life of a CA Trainee like?
Everyday as a trainee at EQ is different. There is no such thing as a normal day for me and I have been lucky enough to gain experience in accounts preparation, taxation, audit and other compliance as well as working with clients in a variety of sector

What did you enjoy most about being a CA Trainee at EQ?
The variety of work is what I like most about my job.

What did you find the most surprising during your training with EQ?
What surprised me most was the amount of responsibility I was given. It is nice that they had belief in myself and other trainees to do the work. Another thing that surprised me was the level of support I received, from all levels. Asking questions is a good way to learn and I asked a lot, even though I felt it could annoy people over time. Luckily that never happened. Everyone is always there to help and regardless how busy they may be, they are always willing to take the time to help.

What 3 qualities do you think a CA Trainee needs to have if they are to be successful?
People skills, enthusiasm and honesty.

Do you have any advice for those interested in applying for our graduate training vacancies this year?
Just be yourself and enjoy it.
