The Role

Due to our expanding client base, we are looking to strengthen our team by recruiting a Senior Bookkeeper into our Business Services Team. With offices in the Scottish Borders, Edinburgh, Haddington, Alnwick and Penrith, we can be flexible on where the successful candidate is based.  

 

Key Responsibilities

This is a varied and busy role where you’ll look after a portfolio of clients and your responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

  • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable. 
  • Performing bank reconciliations. 
  • Preparing VAT returns. 
  • Liaising with clients and providing bookkeeping support. 
  • Undertaking client software set-ups 
  • Training clients on bookkeeping software 
  • Reviewing and maintaining online filing systems. 
  • Rolling forward accounts at the request of accountants. 
  • Administering electronic and manual bank records and mandates as required. 
  • Preparing correspondence to various parties. 
  • Cloud accounting. 
  • Creating, evaluating and submitting reports to clients. 
  • Dealing with day-to-day queries 

 

About You 

  • Ideally you’ll have a payroll qualification or training or have had experience in a similar role. 
  • A strong knowledge of Xero and Sage is essential. 
  • A working knowledge of other cloud-based accounting systems would also be an advantage, although training can be given 
  • Good numerical skills are essential as are excellent communication skills and a keen willingness to learn and develop. 
  • Professional and pro-active, you will be experienced in providing the best service possible to clients with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. 
  • You are positive and confident in your abilities, but you’re also a kind, empathetic person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • We will work closely with you to continually develop your technical skills and experience and provide any appropriate training where necessary.
