EQ at home – Chris Price

At EQ, our people are at the heart of what we do.

Although working from home means we are physically spread across our regions, our team are working hard to maintain regular communication with their clients whilst continuing to support colleagues by connecting with them daily.

We caught up with Chris Price from our Glenrothes office, to find out more about his experience working from home.

How are you finding working remotely?

I’m finding working from home quite easy, although it did take some time to adjust at the beginning. I feel I’ve gotten into a rhythm, but I’m looking forward to getting back into the office and seeing everyone in the flesh. I’ve tried to maintain my normal working pattern but it’s all too easy to have an extra hour in bed each morning.

I underestimated the power of dual screens—going from dual screens to a laptop has been the hardest change of any.

What are you doing to keep in touch with the rest of the EQ team?

We’ve been communicating regularly through all different apps: Microsoft teams, video calls, Facebook groups. It’s rare a day goes by that you don’t speak to at least a few different people. Our office has set up a weekly informal chat on Fridays to which the groups vary week on week, so it allows us to catch up on everything except work.

How are you looking after your emotional well being?

I’m trying to keep active by going cycling in the mornings to get out the house and get some fresh air while the football season is down.

I’ve tried my hand a few times at baking, so if I manage to escape the lockdown without some element of food poisoning, I’ll be doing well! Although the craze of stock piling flour is halting my bake-off audition. . . .

What advice would you give to others working from home?

I’d recommend setting up a workspace and sticking to some form of a routine. It can be easy to get distracted in the house and before you know it an hour has passed—I’m sure we are all guilty of that!

You should always try shut off from work at nights and stick to the normal working hours as time can easily fly by and you’ve missed the soaps!

Tell us, what are your new co-workers like?

It took some time to get used to having a full house and finding some peace and quiet, although I can’t complain too much. They always make the lunch and I had a haircut which turned out better than I could have expected.

Our doors may be temporarily closed, but EQ are still here to support you. You can contact us on any of our usual telephone numbers and email addresses, which you can find on the Our People page on this website.
