Government funding available for resource efficiency improvements

The Scottish Government has announced an additional incentive to their interest free loans available to SME’s to improve resource efficiency. For a limited time the interest free loans will also invite a 30% cashback on completion of the projects (up to a maximum of £10,000).

Example of measures which could be funded are:

• Lighting improvements
• Heating and air condition upgrades
• Insulation
• Renewable energy systems
• Water saving systems

The advantages to this are three fold.  There are reductions to the energy resources used resulting in reduced costs for businesses as well as improvements to their buildings that could be required repairs anyway.  There is also a reduced cash flow impact in using the interest free loans to fund the improvements.  The added 30% cash injection leads to a great deal for businesses.

There are conditions that need to be met for the size and nature of the project. The scheme is open to privately owned businesses, private sector landlords and charities.
